Dita Von Teese Nails, Hair & Make-Up

Dita Von Teese Nails, Hair & Make-Up
I was inspired by a photoshoot to do this Dita Von Teese look on my friend Seaneen recently.

The photoshoot took place in March in Calumet for photographer and my friend Matthew for his workshop. We collaborate on many projects together when we each have ideas and need to benefit from the other's skills so this one where I did make-up, hair and nails in exchange for some pictures. Our model for the day was Rachel who has the ideal look for a vintage style shoot. Her face reminds me of Old Hollywood faces and Nicole Kidman. Because it was a workshop, there were a number of photographers there learning from Matthew.

I also got a chance to take some pictures...

After the shoot with Rachel, we both decided to try and re-create the make-up for a video but the day we had decided to film, the road was blocked and we could not do the video. Later that evening Seaneen was going to model for another look but we decided to go for the classic Hollywood look instead of the avant garde one we had planned.

Dita's make-up is reminiscent of the Hollywood starlets of the 1940's and 1950's and is such an iconic look. I love how both make-ups turned out. Winged liner and red lips is a universal make-up that suits everyone and I used the same products for both models. My advice for a Dita look is to use matte cosmetics for everything. Matte does not have to look flat if you you use a matte color a few shades lighter than your skin tone in order to highlight.

Products used:
  • Velcro rollers
  • Barry M gelly nail paint - Chilli.
  • Garnier micellar cleansing water.
  • Boots vitamin moisturiser.
  • Revlon colorstay foundation - Buff.
  • 6 pan non-branded matte contour eBay palette - white, flesh and chocolate shades for eyes; matte white, cream and chocolate shades for face.
  • Sleek borw kit - Light (for Rachel I used Dark)
  • 10 pan non-branded blusher eBay palette - peachy pink.
  • Derma V10 mascara
  • Maybelline eye studio lasting drama gel liner - Black
  • Make-Up Revolution eyeshadow palette - Essential Mattes (black)
  • Active Cosmetics glamour extensions false lashes - Dazzling
  • Duo glue - Dark
  • Max Factor color elixir lip pencil - Fire
  • Make-Up Academy matte lipstick - Scarlet Siren

Make-Up Forever Flash Palette DUPE Tutorial & Review | Color Block Make-Up

Make-Up Forever Flash Palette DUPE Tutorial | Color Block Make-Up
An entire make-up application done by mixing the colors from the MUFE flash palette dupe. It is called the 'IMagic Fashion 12 in 1 Flash Color Cosmetic Case Make-Up palette for eyes and cheeks' and cost me just £7.15 (has since increased) from eBay - a huge 90% less than the MUFE original which can cost anywhere between £70 and £95. This is such a great palette for nights out and events where you want extra heavy coverage in your foundation. it is also ideal for make-up artists, theatre actors, drag queens and also for those who travel alot and don't mind mixing their colors to get what they need. They are highly pigmented greasepaints which are easy to blend in order to customize your own colors. They gave great coverage but because of the texture I would suggest setting the make-up with a either translucent or similar colored powder if you decide to wear this as an everyday make-up as the product has a tendency to transfer especially on the eyelids. I have spoken so much about this palette that I thought I would show you how to do an entire face of make-up using just this palette.  This was such a fun video to do. Hope you enjoy.
The colors in this palette are:
  • Gold (shimmer)
  • Coral
  • Turquoise
  • Fuchsia
  • Yellow
  • Brown
  • Silver (shimmer)
  • White
  • Red
  • Bright Blue
  • Leaf Green
  • Black

For this make-up I mixed some of these colors together using a stainless steel mixing tray and spatula that I bought from eBay for just £2.73.

Face:
  • Foundation - I mixed White, Brown, Coral (although I kept calling it peach in the video) and Leaf Green) to create a flesh tone.
  • Concealer - Same colors as the foundation with an extra bit of White.
  • Highlight - Same as the foundation but with alot more white. I then mixed Gold and White for the added shimmer on the tops of the cheeks.
  • Contour - Same colors as the foundation but with extra Brown.
  • Blusher - I mixed Coral, Red and Pink for a nice spring/summer blush color.
Eyes:
  • Eyebrows - I mixed a small bit of Brown with Black and White to make a taupe shade.
  • Eyelid Base - I used the leftover foundation as my eye base.
  • Eyeliner - I mixed Pink and Bright Blue to create a vibrant indigo/violet shade. I then set this with a similar colored eyeshadow which was Saturn's Ring from the Celestial palette by Sleek.
  • Lower Lash Line & Bottom Waterline - I mixed Yellow and Leaf Green to make a lime green/chartreuse shade and set it with Thrash from the Electric palette from Urban Decay.
  • Inner Corners - A mixture of White and Gold.
  • Mascara - I used two mascaras which were Make-Up Revolution's The Viper and Maybelline Big Eyes.
Lips:
  • Main Color - Same as blusher color with an extra bit of Coral.
  • Centre Highlight - Same my initial highlight shade before using the Gold.

Valentine's Day Make-Up Ideas

My latest Valentine's make-up tutorial has inspired me to post about a few different looks I have done either on Valentine's Day in previous years or it just has pink in them and I wanted to share as a Valentine's make-up inspiration. It is a good way to see how much my make-up has improved and to look back on which products I enjoyed using.

Valentine's Day 2008
Seven years later and I am still doing this cheesy posing. I more than likely took a rose from my mum's bunch to take this picture to make it look extra Valentinesy. I remember the lip was Max Factor's lipfinity in Hot and I was obsessed with this since buying it the previous month at WalMart. I don't remember the eye products but clearly liner was not my forte back then.

Valentine's Day 2012
A big four year jump and I'm having an affair with over-editing. Was feeling grungey and feliney but at the same time I wanted to add some romance into the look with all the beads and single inner corner hearts ( which came from a nail art wheel by the way). I belive I used the Urban Decay Naked palette and lips were MAC's So Chaud.

Valentine's Day 2014
I did write a post about this look last year so all products are listed including cheek and lips. Still loving the single hearts, this time on the outer corners and was inspired by the abundance of Elsa make-up tutorials that were emerging at this time. Kept the entire look very soft, romantic, hazy and pink. Without looking tat the post and off the top of my head, I believe I used the Sleek vintage romance palette for the eyes and Tanya Burr's First Date lipgloss on the lips.

So this Valentine's Day I wanted my make-up to be simple yet striking so I opted for a 'lips and lashes' look. I chose some paper lashes in the shape of roses and teamed them with MAC's Lady Danger lipstick - an orange based red. The rest of the eyes were kept neutral with Make-Up Revolution's Iconic Dreams eyeshadow palette and 2True black liquid liner.

Valentine’s Day Date Night Pink/Rose Gold Make-Up
So lately I bought myself a new camera and the quality of my video content is much better visually and audibly. I had filmed a few looks back in 2014 which I never got round to editing and uploading so sped them and rehashed them as Valentine's Day make-up tutorials. This is the first one which you can watch by clicking here. All products are listed in the video's description box, however I did use the Make-Up Revolution Iconic 3, the dupe for Naked 3 to create this look.

Anti-Valentine's Day Electric Pink & Purple Make-Up
The second speed tutorial and lazy girl's answer to a make-up video is my version of an anti-Valentine's look but still has the pink which you could substitute for red. It is colorful smokey eye and nude lips which you can watch right here. A product list is available in the description ox but I did use the Urban Decay Electric palette for the eyes and a lip tint from Make-Up Academy in Rendezvous.

Valentine's Glam Make Up Smokey Winged Liner & Pink Lips (Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar 2)
Oh wow! If you have watched this then you know I love to gratuitously pose and look at myself CONSTANTLY when I am loving the make-up I am wearing. I am the Queen of the Selfies and I hope I never change.  This was an idea inspired by Manny MUA whose video on smokey winged liner blew my mind so much that I had to re-create it with a pink glitter Valentine's twist. It is slightly drag but glamorous enough for your Valentine's date night. You can watch it by clicking here. No doubt most of the views have come from me refreshing it so I can see that transformation. I can't help myself. Of course I used the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocllate Bar 2 palette, Lorac's 3d liquid lustre in Rose Quartz and Tanya Burr's lipgloss in Sparkling Dewdrops. The rest of the products are listed in the description box of the video.
