On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

There are other ways to wear pink that don't include an obvious rose or fuchsia lip or even a shocking pink liner or puce colored lid. So, yes, I am cheating again with a past look but I want this series to inspire make-up addicts to leave their comfort zone, even just temporarily. This look is about adding a hint of color to a neutral look. This is now available as a tutorial but it also featured on 5 Looks, 1 Palette: Electric Palette from last week.

#OnWednesdaysWeWearPink
MAC's Silly eyeshadow was predominantly the pink shade to intensify the crease along with a hint of UD Jilted.
#OnWednesdaysWeWearPink
Of course if you wanted to make this more pink you could substitute the chartreuse shade I used on the inner corner and waterline for either a neutral, vanilla, gold or any shade of pink.
#OnWednesdaysWeWearPink
Apart from the bright green, this eye look is all about subtlety and how it can instantly transform an everyday neutral eye.
#OnWednesdaysWeWearPink
Teamed with a pink and purple ombré  lip, this balances out the entire make-up.

Dealing With Insecurity

Inspired by Melanie Murphy and Elle Is For Living, I wanted to talk about a few issues that I enjoy talking about as well as ones which can irk me at times. So, unintentionally pessimistically, I have began with something that affects everyone. Insecurities can manifest themselves in a variety of ways such as shyness, selfishness, neurotic jealousy, negativity, humility, and bullying (thanks Wikipedia and Abraham Maslow). Some people are are able to manage them differently to others and this was the point of my video. It can be hard to face another person's insecurities especially if you are in the firing line. As I said in my video, when that happens, try to seek comfort from a person you trust and/or do something you enjoy to distract you from the hurt. Remember, a person's insecurity that comes out in the form of jealousy and bullying etc, can have trouble balancing their own emotional stability and keep this mind if you choose to directly respond to their negative comments. This can help you to better understand why people are the way they are and perhaps allow you to respond only when you feel it is absolutely necessary. In turn, this will improve your personal strength and every situation will help you to recognize others' insecurity in an empathetic way. It is all about perspective. Easy to think and easy to say but can be very hard to put it in to practice. Try your best - that is all anyone can do.

I want to make it clear that dealing with personal insecurity and other people's insecurity that is projected on to you are very different. Knowing yourself is the best way to help you understand other people. Maybe that is for another Sunday Chat but in the meantime here are some helpful tips designed in order to help you combat personal insecurity.

  1. Insecurity is not always ugly in form. It can actually be quite humbling to disappear into your own mind and immerse yourself in your own thoughts. With insecurity comes moments of humility and personal retreat - a place for your mind to wander in order to test your boundaries and be the best you there is. Without insecurity, I may not have discovered my passion for make-up, my need to always change my hair or my latest interest of wishing to be self-sustainable. Insecurity can sometimes allow to develop your skills - this is when insecurity can be taken from the negative and it turned into something wonderfully positive for you and those around you.
  2. Improve your self-esteem. This personal to you so each individual will vary. For me, I like to be around my family as the have the biggest, most positive impact on my life as they will always have words and actions of support, kindness, wisdom encouragement and above all else, love. I also like to wear make-up and paint my nails as this makes me feel more beautiful and boosts my self-esteem.
  3. Avoid people you know will suck you into your world of insecurity. Think of Mean Girls. It might seem popular in school but in reality, nobody wants to be that girl or be around that girl when they grow up.
  4. Be Ru Paul. If not, just remember, "if you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love anybody else. Can I get an Amen?"
  5. Sunscreen - Baz Luhrman. On repeat until it sinks in. You are more wonderful than you realise.

That was a serious topic. I feel the need to be finish with a touch of light-heartedness so here are some "Daily Treasures..."
  • I woke up at 7am and did not get out of bed until 12.30. It is Sunday and I watched 5 episodes of The Munsters as well as that Kevin Kline film, "I Love You To Death."
  • I have Meat Loaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love" on a loop in my head and it has been that way for about two weeks.
  • It is 2.30pm and I have yet to have breakfast. Ooops. But I have had some herbal tea.
  • Illuminated Mirrors has majorly inflated my ego this week with their kind words over on their blog. If you are girl with a flutter of Old Hollywood in your heart then their Hollywood mirror is a must have item in your bedroom and/or girl cave.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Bit of a cheat for today but it's pink so it counts. A few weeks ago I was inspired by Karla Powell to do some pink glitter lips. Loved how they turned out.

Products & Method:
  1. Use MAC Burgundy pencil to shape them
  2. Mixed Sleek pout paints in Pinkini and Peachy Keen for the base colour.
  3. Pat a pink glitter on top. I mixed Stargazer UV Pink all over with Lit Cosmetics Wonder Woman on the corners and MAC 3D Silver in the centre.

Dexter Lip Art

If I could. I'd be Hallowe'en all year round. In the past I have collaborated on gory shoots in February and painted my face like Wicked inspired drag queen and now here I am 6 weeks before Hallowe'en making lip art out of blood spatter. Inspired by Dexter and glam/gore artist Mykie

Dexter lip art.

Products & Method:
  1. Line your lips with a white pencil like Sleek eau la la pencil in White Noise
  2. Use a white base such as Illamasqua skin base SB01 to fill in the entire lip.
  3. Set the white base with MAC prep & prime translucent powder as this will help with longevity and reduce the risk of mixing the red and white products too much.
  4. Take an opaque red gloss or preferably a liquid lipstick such as Sleek pout paint in Pin Up on a deatiler brush and pat on the product. Avoid using a brushing motion as this will smear the products turing he lips pink. Go from corner to corner and top to bottom leaving gaps and making small dots in order to look like blood spatter. Think of it as a blood-soaked ombré lip.
  5. To make the drips, use Kryolan eye blood on top of the dots. When mixed with the pout paint, the oils separate making it perfect to create drips and making the blood spatter look more realistic.
Speaking of Dexter, who used to hit pause on the screen in the opening credits?
That face.
Hiya.

5 Looks, 1 Palette: Urban Decay Electric Palette

I was inspired by Kristin Gehm’s series of 4 Looks 1 Palette where Kristin creates four different make-up looks using the same palette for that week. I thought I would create a similar series entitled 5 Looks, 1 Palette where I would create 5 different looks using the same palette. Palettes are my main make-up obsession so why not utilise them more and share with my fellow make-up addicts.
5 Looks, 1 Palette: Urban Decay Electric Palette
I have started off with this series with perhaps the least Autumnal palette I own and that is Urban Decay's Electric palette (click here for review and here for alternatives).  For this video I teamed the colours in this palette with other shadows as these bright, vibrant colours need something to help balance and neutralize the eyes in order to give the eyes more shape and dimension I will try to stick to just those palette shade for future episodes but this does depend on the shades available. and colour availability. I also used every colour in this palette for these looks, something which I may not be able to do for any future posts in this series as this depends on the size of the palette.

Look 1 - Shadows used: Jilted, Thrash
This is the most wearable out of the five and I have video on this look which is actually me adding colour to the make-up I created for my latest Kylie Jenner inspired tutorial. This is an ideal look for those who just want hints of colour rather than colour explosions.  I teamed this eye look with a mixture of pink and purple lipsticks in order to create a subtle ombré effect.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Hi! Long time, no write/read. I can begin with apologies and reasons as to why I have been M.I.A on here but I suppose I was feeling a little overwhelmed with media platforms and a little uninspired.. So I am reigniting the passion for make-up and focusing on just a handful of social profiles (mainly YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Blogger) and starting a mini series on here and Instgram.

Inspired by the 2004 Lindsey Lohan hit (you know what's coming as LiLo has so far only had a solo masterpiece and you have probably read the title of this post), Mean Girls, I have decided to begin an array of looks where the main focus of the look is pink. I will upload these each Wednesday via Blogger and Instagram but make sure to subscribe to my blog as more pictures will be featured here than any other platform. I may in the future recreate some looks on YouTube if they are requested. If you want to get involved please hashtag your pictures with #OnWednesdaysWeWearPink, #OWWWP and #NealaOlivia. Please also include my name @NealaOlivia on Twitter and Instagram, that way I will be sure to see all your wonderful creations.

So here is the first look, a blown out matte neon pink eye with a shimmer centre. The full list of products will be listed at the end of this post.

I also wanted to look like I had Ariana Grande hair. Yes, I am aware there is a significant age gap. Who cares. If you love it, do it. Plus I'm pretty sure she stole my primary school hair style. Thanks mum, I always knew you would start a trend, even if it didn't catch for another twenty years.
