LunatiCK Cosmetic Labs Contour Book/Palette

LunatiCK Cosmetic Labs Contour Book/Palette
LunatiCK Cosmetic Labs are a cruelty free and vegan beauty and special effects brand which specialises in horror themed products. They create products with ostentatiously spooky themed packaging for alternative people, stage performers and professional make-up artists. It's Hallowe'en all year round with USA company LunatiCK designing such chillingly beautiful cosmetics including coffin shaped eyeshadow palettes, bullet lipsticks and a pressed powder compact that has been fashioned into a planchette. Shade names like Cinderhella, Reincarnation and Amberzombie & Ditch greatly appeases the fourteen-year-old goth in me. Based on the very existance of LunatiCK, it comes as no surprise that I purchased their contour book.

Any die-hard fans of the quintessential Hallowe'en Disney movie, Hocus Pocus, will draw upon similarities between Winnie's moving eyeball book of spells and the design of the LunatiCK contour book. The outer packaging of the contour palette looks romantically Gothic with the grey-toned lavender background and the seemingly blackened metallic ornate edging around the perimeter of the palette. The bewildering demonic face on the right of the palette gives the appearance of a lock on a diary, warning those who don't have authority to stay away. The unravelled stitching print gives a worn look to the palette and the eye that peeks through the threads seems to follow you everywhere!

The names of the shades are printed on the back ranging in numbers from 1 to 12. The colour selection is unlike any contour palette I own and it provides options for many skintones and undertones, from the very fair to the deep dark. Inside the palette lays a mirror and 12 multi-purpose and versatile matte shades which I also like to use for eyeshadow. The pans are removable, making me wonder if LunatiCK are likely to sell these colours individually at some point so that frequently used shades can be easily replaced without having to repurchase the entire palette - but I suppose only time will tell. The shades are formulated with ultra-fine silica and are conveniently divided into three rows; cool, rosy blush and warm, with hues in each row spanning from light to dark. Typical contour shades on the market are either neutral or warm. I have also noticed that many dark contours aimed towards deeper skintones appear to be warm. That's all grand if you have a warm underone but many people, including myself, are cool and it is great to see so many options. Natural shadows on the face appear to be cool on the skin and this palette allows you to create realistic contours as well as dramatic ones, depending on your skintone and your personal preference. The two lightest shades are excellent additions to this palette, especially for those who prefer natural highlights without sheen or shimmer.

This is an essential piece of kit for all make-up artists as every bronzer and natural shadow tones have been catered for. You can customise how you minimize and enhance your features as the shades are buildable and of course you can mix and match between the tones to create a bespoke colour. This product photographs beautifully on the skin and can be as natural or as theatrical as you intend it to be. Definitely a must-have product for professionals and make-up collectors who adore alternative beauty.

Pumpkin Make-Up 4 Ways for Hallowe'en

Pumpkin Make-Up 4 Ways for Hallowe'en
Do you ever have an idea in your head and you cannot rest until you have made it into a reality? I am pretty much like that 24/7 and this pumpkin make-up concept was no exception. For these looks I was inspired by Hallowe'en's most iconic root vegetable. As pumpkins are traditionally harvested during the Autumn months, I wanted to incorporate squash colors into two wearable looks as well as two Hallowe'en ones. Furthermore, I have done a pretty and simplistic look per category. The video itself is a speed tutorial and clear for for those competent in make-up. Apologies to those who are a little less knowledgeable and skilled in make-up but hopefully watching me and reading the product list will give you an indication of what to do. If at any time, you would like a normal paced tutorial on any particular look, just let me know and I will be happy to oblige. Hope you enjoy.

Look 1: Day Time Spiced Pumpkin
This look I wanted to do with a grunge girl twist. I packed sepia toned shadows onto the lid and purposefully left out a strong winged liner. I personally prefer looks without liner as they tend to look more contemporary and of course are much more forgiving on the eyes (especially my 29-year-old baby wrinkled ones). I teamed the eyes with rosy cheeks and opted for a deep aubergine matte lip. I changed the lip two more times. Once with a burgundy red centre surrounded by the original eggplant purple and again with a custom-made squash tone which was favorite of the bunch.

Look 2: Night Time Pumpkin
For my second wearable pumpkin look, I wanted glitter and glamour. I went with a striking black and orange halo eye with abstract winged liner and a vivid orange inner corners. There is glitter everywhere! I wanted some serious highlight on my cheeks and mixed my products to achieve a beautiful warm glow. I kept the lips simple and almost bitten looking with a sheer matte berry lipstick. Of course you could add layers to intensify the color or even a gloss for a different effect. I think the squash lip option from the first look would look amazing with these eyes.

Look 3: Pumpkin Masquerade Princess
Perhaps in concept, this look was the driving force behind this entire video of tutorials. From this idea of a Pumpkin Princess was born the following look and and the two previous wearable ones. For this I wanted to incorporate a masquerade mask, as if Pumpkin Princess was at a ball and so I continued on the make-up application from the previous look, making the eyes a central focus of the look. In-keeping with the color selection I chose a Linda La Hughes style wig and drew a pumpkin on my face. I changed the lip to a deeper squash colour and added some glitter and a little carved pumpkin nose.

Look 4: Evil Zombie Pumpkin Queen
The fourth and final look for this series is where the Pumpkin Princess fell into a ditch of rotting pumpkins, died and became re-born as the Pumpkin Queen - but much more evil and zombie-like. Surprisingly, this was the easiest look to achieve and the quickest despite it appearing to be much more complicated. It took less products than all the other looks but it was also the messiest and hardest to clean up.

Dexter Lip Art

If I could. I'd be Hallowe'en all year round. In the past I have collaborated on gory shoots in February and painted my face like Wicked inspired drag queen and now here I am 6 weeks before Hallowe'en making lip art out of blood spatter. Inspired by Dexter and glam/gore artist Mykie

Dexter lip art.

Products & Method:
  1. Line your lips with a white pencil like Sleek eau la la pencil in White Noise
  2. Use a white base such as Illamasqua skin base SB01 to fill in the entire lip.
  3. Set the white base with MAC prep & prime translucent powder as this will help with longevity and reduce the risk of mixing the red and white products too much.
  4. Take an opaque red gloss or preferably a liquid lipstick such as Sleek pout paint in Pin Up on a deatiler brush and pat on the product. Avoid using a brushing motion as this will smear the products turing he lips pink. Go from corner to corner and top to bottom leaving gaps and making small dots in order to look like blood spatter. Think of it as a blood-soaked ombré lip.
  5. To make the drips, use Kryolan eye blood on top of the dots. When mixed with the pout paint, the oils separate making it perfect to create drips and making the blood spatter look more realistic.
Speaking of Dexter, who used to hit pause on the screen in the opening credits?
That face.
Hiya.
